Henhouse Children's Art School was formed in 2013 by Henrietta Ellis and Celia Houghton, who are two very experienced and professional artists. They are both very passionate about their creativity and wish to pass this on. Their aim is to share their skills, knowledge and enthusiasm with future generations. They want to provide a space and time where you or your child can feel free to develop their ideas and their individual creativity, however it might be.
The name Henhouse is derived from their names 'Hen' from Henrietta and 'Hou'(se) from Houghton.
"I have always wanted to run a visual art school for children just like the many dance and stage schools that are available. I wanted to share my enthusiasm for the visual arts with the next generation and help them be creative. It wasn't until a project Henrietta & I were working on got rained off, that we sat and chatted over a coffee about things we'd like to do, that Henhouse eventually started to hatch." - Celia Houghton
"I have always been an artist for as long as I remember. I wish there had been a 'Henhouse' when I was young as it wasn't until I went to Art College that I met other like minded people. I loved being free to experiment, discover, create, learn about artists and techniques. We aim to do that with Henhouse Art School; with added fun, support and enthusiasm from Celia and I" - Henrietta Ellis

I enjoy helping other people discover their creativity and have fun in the process. I am a problem solver and like to promote that in others. I believe that the process is just as important as the final result. I have worked as an artist with the community and children for over 20 years in different settings from schools, community events to festivals. I have recently returned to university to study for a Masters Degree in Fine Art. I have worked as Arts Officer for Lichfield District Council for 16 years until recently; organising art activities for the community, promoting the arts and creating opportunities for artists. I have also been a Teacher of Art & Design in secondary schools and as Artist in Residence at St Stephen's Primary School in Fradley, working with the whole school on many different projects covering all the keys skills of the national curriculum for art & design. Through my freelance work I have created artworks with Fulfen Primary, Chadsmead Primary, Olympic Rings with Boney Hay Primary, a Mosaic with Bridgtown Primary and a Reading Corner at Whittington Primary School with Henrietta. |
Celia and I (Henhouse)
I have known (and worked for) Celia since 2008 and I so admire the passion she has as an Art educator. She's always getting us to expand our minds, to think outside the box.
We work really well together and our skills compliment each other to make Henhouse Art School a varied and inspiring place to learn about the fantastic world of Art.
